Have A Meat and Potatoes Day

Hello lovelies! I am beyooooond exhausted today, so I'm going to have to keep this sweet and short.

Blue & Green Floral T-Shirt - Old Navy; Blue & Green Floral Skirt - Thrifted; Blue Suede Wedges - Bamboo via Something Old, Something New
As we get into Spring, we start to see more of my standard go-to, the t-skirt combo. It's definitely the meat and potatoes of my warm weather wardrobe. Plus, even now when the temps are still cooler, it's easy to just throw on some tights or layer some leggings. I just bought this t-shirt and was extremely pleased with how well it goes with this thrifted skirt that I have. And the dark gray tights match perfectly the gray hue of the t-shirt. Then I pulled the electric blue from the skirt and donned one of my favorite pair of shoes. I even have a headband that I made that matched the color scheme of this outfit perfectly. A gold necklace, a gold ring and my new gold & white watch completed the ensemble. :)

Have A Spring Has Sprung (Weather or NOT!) Day

I have some good news guys! The photos that went missing my from SD card Monday magically reappeared. For serious! I have no idea what happened, but suddenly they were just there again. I am so glad I didn't format the card like I was about to. This is why I will never fully understand electronics. But I really don't have to understand, to be happy that my photos were back and I don't have to re-shoot them!

Coral Tank - Old Navy; Lace Button Up Blouse - A Diva via Marshall's; Coral & Green Floral Skirt - Payless; Red Espadrilles - Old Navy
So yes, the weather has been giving me the blues lately. These past few days especially, because they've been cold and rainy. But Monday was actually sunny which was nice. It was also verrrrrrrry cold, which was not nice. I don't care what the thermometer says though, because it's Spring and I refuse to start feeling like it's the dark days of Winter again. Naturally, I had to wear a bright floral print to perk things up. And a bold burst of coral to accent the skirt, of course! And why not top it off with a soft and lacy blouse? I played off the brown and red in the skirt for the tights and shoes, and even the green for the sequined flower barrette. And my other accessories, a flower cocktail ring and a tree roots pendant, I kept white(ish) and gold. I really enjoyed wearing this outfit. It's definitely going on that ever-growing list of outfits I could wear all the time.

Have A Low Key Day

Well the weather lately has been kind of bumming me out. At the end of last week there was some precipitation forecasted, along with some cold temps. I was also pretty exhausted by the end of the week. So Friday I was looking to go low key and relaxed.

Pink Floral T-Shirt - Merona via Target; Gold Ruffle Cardi - Old Navy; Skinny Leg Jeans - Old Navy; Brown Oxford Flats - Isaac Mizrahi via Target
It couldn't get anymore relaxed than jeans and a t-shirt paired with a comfy cardi and some easy flats. With the temps back down, it's been chilly in my office. So the cardigan is utilitarian, along with adding some frill and excitement to an otherwise plain outfit. I used to be a total jeans and t-shirt girl, but I have a hard time wearing the combo alone these days. I dressed the ensemble up a bit with some gold accessories and a huge pink floral stretch ring, which I promptly broke after taking these photos. I am forever a klutz, as I simply knocked my hand against my camera tripod and the ring exploded. One of these days I'll get around to fixing it.

Oh, and that's my cat Woody in the second photo. He's peeking out the front door, because that's what he loves to do for some reason. Every evening when I take my photos by the door, my cats like to follow me in hopes that I'll let them out. Sorry kitty cats but it's not that easy.

Have A Blue Overdose Day

Ah, Monday, sweet Monday. Ha! Just kidding. Is there ever anything sweet about a Monday? I actually wasn't having too bad of a day for it being the start of the work week. That is, until I got home and took photos for today. They came out perfectly actually. But I went to transfer the images later and found that the photos never saved to the SD card. :( Boo!, I don't know why, but I've been having problems with my SD card lately. I will most definitely re-take the photos though because I was totally loving my outfit today. I'll see if I feel up to it some day this week, otherwise I'll get them taken this weekend. Because a good outfit is a terrible thing to waste!

Floral Tunic - Sweet Pea by Stacy Fran via boutique in OBX; Pink Lace Tank - Merona via Target; Leggings - Xhilaration via Target; Fuschia Ballet Flats - Lower East Side via Payless
Speaking of a good outfit, I'm not sure if I'm ready to call this one a good outfit or not. I'm thinking I might just have worn a bit too much blue. Just a bit. I've worn this shirt and tank before with brown leggings and it's worked fine. I wanted to try out the vest with it because it's got a really nice crocheted detail on the back. Unfortunately, I'm feeling like it adds too much bulk here. Actually, I think the vest might have looked all right if I wore the brown leggings again or even the jeggings I was considering. I just think the blue is too much. Ok and my argyle socks don't help either with the white pattern peeking out beneath the hem on my ankles. Oh well, at least I can admit my missteps and learn from it. I'll have to keep try this outfit out again with different leggings and see what I think. I'll let you know how that goes. :)

Outfit Mashup - Animal Instincts

Hello, you beautiful people, you! We have an outfit mashup here to help us catch up as it's been a busy week. Yesterday I must admit, I actually took the day off to spend with my dear friend on her birthday. And we spent the day shopping, so you know I was pretty busy. ;) Actually it was very tiring and I just couldn't find the energy to do anything once I got home. But I can't wait to show off what I got! This shopping trip I actually didn't buy a lot of clothes, just two skirts. I focused mainly on accessories and shoes. I later found some interesting themes that connected everything I purchased without even realizing it at first. It seems my focus yesterday was on gold, pink, purple, floral prints and polka dots. You'll just have to stay tuned to see everything!

Pearl Neck Halter Top - Dots; Leopard Print Cardigan - Worthington via JCPenney; Camo Print Skinny Pants - Old Navy; Leopard Print Platforms - Qupid via Tree Fashions
After a week of lots of dressing up, by Monday was I ready to wear some pants. Buuuuut as you know, I have a hard time not putting some sort of girly spin on my outfits. So pants it was, camo print at that. Next, I thought of this halter top, with pearl embellishments around the neckline. It's feminine with the pearls, but since it's pretty basic beyond that it's not overly feminine. And again with the leopard print cardigan, it's feminine without being over the top. Plus I like that the ruched shoulders lend to the military theme from the pants. The silhouette is pretty structured compared to my usual silhouettes. And to bottom if off, I had to go pretty girly with the shoes. I guess I could've gone just a wee bit more girly, but we're definitely on that end of the spectrum. I mean, leopard print platforms with lace footies? Yeah, that's girly alright. Ok and so are the accessories, because really what guys do you know walking around with a flower headband, a charm bracelet with a leopard print heart and a big flower ring on, all at the same time? Mmmhmm, that's what I thought.

Zebra Print Dress - En Focus Studios via Ross; Gray Ruffled Cardigan - International Concepts via JCPenney; White Medallion Wedges - Dexter via Payless
Tuesday was actually an exciting day for me because it was my and my BF's anniversary. While we didn't have a chance to go out and celebrate that night (can't wait until this weekend though!), I still wanted to dress up anyway. I'm just a romantic to the core! To be honest, I've had this dress for a while and have just been waiting for the right time to wear it. Tuesday was definitely that day. The dress is already a lot, with the loud print and the beaded applique under the bust line, so I didn't have to do too much else with it. I threw the ruffled cardigan on to cover my arms (the dress has straps, no sleeves) and I like how it softens the look up a bit. I took the soft gray and pulled it into the tights. The shoes I chose were white wedges, but they have a gorgeous strappy medallion detail, so they add some additional visual interest to the look without competing with the zebra print. My accessories I kept silver and black. And I had to go with a red lip. It was my anniversary after all. :)

Have A Short Skirt on a Windy Day

So I'm not going to lie, I was not feeling so great Friday morning. Rather than dress down to reflect my mood, I decided to dress up in hopes that maybe it would lift my mood. I've had this fun floral dress since my trip to JCPenney and Friday was just the day to wear it.

Floral Tank Dress - via JCPenney; White Shrug - Dots; Nude Peep Toe Platforms - Guess via DSW

With the forecast for Friday looking to bring temps to the low 70's I didn't feel like wearing tights. I wanted at least my feet uncovered to be able to breath. I tried some leggings beneath this dress but I just didn't like how any of them looked with it. I was stuck on not wanting to wear tights. And anyway, you know what puts me in a good mood usually? Being daring and showing off. So I took the plunge and decided to flaunt my legs. To stretch the look of my legs a wee bit, I donned my nude platforms. Since I was showing enough skin on my bottom half, I covered the tank of the dress with a white shrug. It was simple outfit finished off with a few floral accessories. The outfit (and the compliments I received) and the weather lifted my spirits for sure. What's your trick for for dressing when you're in an icky mood?

Have A Green & Gold Saint Patrick's Day

Happy Saturday all! I was so very happy to celebrate the end of the week with a good friend last night. The weather yesterday was perfect, I only wish I could have spent more time outside. But today is beautiful as well, just a wee bit chillier. I am thrilled that tomorrow marks the official start of Spring. Luckily it has already been feeling like Spring around here with milder temps than usual. I guess the groundhog was accurate in his prediction this year! Speaking of nice weather, Thursday was a pretty nice day as well. I was fortunate enough to be able to get outside and take some photos at the park.

Green Lace Embellished Tank - Old Navy; Taupe Crocheted Shrug - Spense via Ross; Gold & Black Banded Skirt - 213 via HauteLook; Black Gold Studded Peep Toes - Dexter via Payless

So everyone knows you have to wear green on Saint Patrick's Day, but I didn't want to go all green. What other color can be affiliated with the holiday, I thought. Why, gold of course! As in a pot-o-gold at the end of the rainbow. I decided on wearing this gold skirt with a green tank top, I just had to pin down the specifics. So I pulled out my green tank tops on Thursday and decided on the brightest green I had. Since I was planning on wearing the skirt high-waisted, I didn't have many options for a top layer to wear over the tank. I knew it had to be something cropped and fitted. The list of needs pretty much left me with only one option for this outfit, but luckily it was an option that worked. I pinned the crocheted shrug together with a gold flower brooch. Since I wanted the green and gold to be the main focus of the outfit, I didn't want to wear black tights. This taupe pair of  patterned fishnets worked well, along with the black pair of gold studded peep toes. I finished it all off with a few green and gold accessories.

Have A Twist on the Usual Day

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Ever since I was little, this day has been special to me because of my Irish heritage. I can't recall a single St. Paddy's Day that I haven't worn green on. So you can bet I was wearing green today! Buuuuuuuut, before we get ahead of ourselves, it's time to see what I wore Wednesday.

Striped Bow Top - Worthington via JCPenney; Abstract Floral Print Skirt - Old Navy; Suede Bow Embellished Heels - Mix No. 6 - DSW
I've had this shirt for a few weeks, since I went to JCPenney, and it was time to wear it. I decided to pair it with a skirt, as the tee-skirt combo is an old standby that never fails for me. But it was a little bit of a twist, since the top is cut like a tee-shirt but is a polyester blend so it's got some stretch and bounce to it. Plus there is a ruching detail at the bottom hem on the sides. Then I realized that I had also put a twist on a new standby - florals and stripes. The skirt is a more abstract floral print than other florals I tend to wear and the top does in fact showcase some stripes, in the form of a bow design. How perfect! Of course, to go with the bow design, I had to wear my suede cut-out heels with the big bow accents. And a purple pair of fishnets went perfectly with the purple hints in the skirt. I finished it off with some basic accessories complimenting the colors in the outfit. A very nice ensemble, I must say! :)

Have A Gray Ombre Day

I ended up working from home again Monday so that helps us quickly catch up to Tuesday. Tuesday was actually an incredibly productive day for me, which made me appreciate the comfort of my outfit.

Light Blue Ribbed Tank - Mossimo Supply Co. via Target; Gray Floral Blouse - Mossimo Supply Co. via Target; Gray Button Down Jumper - Mossimo Supply Co. via Target; Gray Zipper Detail Leggings - Old Navy; Black Bow Embellished Flats - Enzo Angiolini via DSW
I had experimented with this outfit over the weekend but had a hard time figuring out what footwear to sport. The zipper detail on the leggings makes it hard to do a shoe with too much detailing. In hindsight I probably should've just thrown on some gray tights instead to make things easier. But since I did wear the leggings, I decided to go with the black flats. I have some gray shoes I thought of wearing but I decided against it, afraid the gray might get too overwhelming. When I looked in the floor length mirror I realized that I had a sort of ombre effect going with the jumper, leggings and shoes, going from medium-gray to black. Maybe it's a bit of a stretch? Anyway, I needed a belt of some sort so I took a pink scarf and secured it with a like-color floral stretch ring. I still think this outfit probably would've looked more streamline with some tights, but overall I like where I was going with this look. And as I mentioned, it was comfy to work in! :)

Have An Attack of Stripes & Florals Day

Sorry for the lack of outfit posts this past week. I ended up working from home Wednesday and Thursday and didn't put together any outfits, so no photos. But Friday I was back to work at the office and it was perfect timing to showcase my new shoes! It was also a perfect outfit to pick-up an already reoccurring theme for me this Spring - stripes & florals!!
Grey & Navy Striped Dress - Merona via Target; Blush Pink Tank - Faded Glory via Walmart; Grey Sweater - BCBGMaxAzria via Burlington Factory; Floral Platform Mary Janes - ShoeDazzle
When I saw my showroom from ShoeDazzle this month, I was completely torn. Usually only 1 or 2 pairs jump out at me as 'must-haves' but this month there were 4 shoes that I couldn't decide between. Eventually I decided on these floral print platform Mary Janes. I'm pretty happy with my decision. :)

In preparation for these new shoes, I must confess I bought a few pieces at Target. This dress was a great find. I can see where I will get a lot of use out of it this summer because it's a nice lightweight fabric in one of my go-to silhouettes. To style it for this outfit, I layered a blush pink tank beneath it and a grey over-sized sweater on top since it's still chilly here in the DC area. I finished it with some navy tights, a vintage pink pearl necklace, a pink & blue pearl bracelet and blue floral filigree earrings. I love this outfit, I really do. I just can't seem to stay away from the combo of stripes and florals. I love how depending on the colors, the cuts and the fabrics,stripes/floral look can vary from being rocker to sweetly feminine or even nautical in this case. What do you think of stripes and florals together?

Have A Fat Tuesday!

Tuesday was Mardi Gras and it gave me another excuse to dress with a theme. Laissez les bon temps rouler! :)

I was really excited about my outfit for Mardi Gras because it meant I finally got to wear the dress I scored thrifting for my birthday. It was a little too long so I had to have the hem taken up (I may be learning to sew, but I was definitely not comfortable with doing the job myself), so that's why I haven't had a chance to wear it yet. But I finally got it fixed and was ready to wear it Tuesday.
Maxi Dress - Candies via Thrifted; Purple Cropped Cardi - Worthington via JCPenney; Black Cami - Hechts; Black Pumps - Fioni via Payless

I found this cropped cardi at JCPenney recently and didn't even realize until I came home how perfectly the color matched the purple color of the dress. This is a pretty simple outfit since the dress takes center stage. All I needed, aside from the cardi, was a cami to layer beneath and some footwear. Keeping it simple, I went with my black pumps and some knee-high fishnets. I kept the accessories black as well. No need to add anymore color to this look!

What do you think of my maxi dress thrift store find? I still can't believe I got so lucky to find it on the rack, in my size and with the tags still on. The colors and the length are so timely, I can't believe someone gave this away!

Have A Woodland Nymph Day

Hehe I don't know what it is about these photos, but it makes me think of woodland nymphs. I think it's the natural earthy colors and the wooded backdrop.
Olive Ribbed Tank - Old Navy; Peasant Blouse Tunic - Old Navy; Draped Camel Cardi - Mossimo via Target; Olive Leggings - Exhilaration via Target; Cognac Belt - H&M ; Cognac Wedges - George via Walmart
I recently purchased this drapey cardigan from Target along with these olive green leggings. I felt like dressing for comfort on Monday and decided it was the perfect duo to try out. Looking in my closet, I was drawn to this peasant blouse tunic because it has the hints of camel in it to match the cardi and the olive green looked nice with it. I jumped at the opportunity to wear some grey polka dot socks. The last thing to tie it all together was a cognac belt and cognac wedges. Though I'm not digging in the photos how bunched up the leggings look around my knees, overall I was very pleased with the outfit and I was definitely comfortable.

Have A Blue Collar Collective Day

Omg you guys! I am totally excited to share with you that I was featured on one of my favorite blogs, Blue Collar Catwalk!!! Kyla has put together the Blue Collar Collective featuring reader submitted outfits that cost $100 or less (excluding jewelry).
 Blue Collar Catwalk

Now, it's sort of hard for me to know the total cost of most of my outfits due to the fact I've never kept track of the total spent for each piece of clothing and each pair of shoes. However, Kyla has actually inspired me to keep better track of those things. And when I finally had an outfit that I knew the total for (and fell below $100) I was so excited to submit it. And then yesterday I saw that I my outfit was featured in her latest installment of the Blue Collar Collective! Yay, thanks Kyla for the love! :) Click here to see the post.

Outfit Mashup - Bursts of Color

Tsk, tsk. I know. I've been bad. I haven't posted in a few days, so now I am so totally backlogged on all the outfits from this past week. Looks like it's time for a serious mashup, huh?

Now that it's March, the countdown for Spring is in full swing. While it's still chilly and not quite Spring-like weather yet, I've been trying to incorporate nods to the season in my outfits. This week it seems like the definite trend was bursts of bright colors. After Winter, it certainly feels invigorating and fresh to see more color.
Floral Dress - I <3 Ronson via JCPenney; Belt - Came with Dress; Striped Cardi - Agenda via Marshall's; Gold Peep Toe Platforms - Isabel Toledo via Payless
I started the week off with a floral print dress from a recent shopping trip to JCPenney. At first I was thinking to layer something on top of it with a corresponding color from the print. But something made me think to try this combo instead with a striped cardi. I'm glad I did, I like the stripes with the floral print. And instead I used my tights to implement more color. The dress came with this leather hardware belt and I like the contrast of sweet and rough, so I went with it. The gold shoes echoes the metal from the hardware of the belt, tying it together nicely.

Crocheted Detail Top - Unity via JCPenney; Black Lace Cami - Worthington via JCPenney; Jeggings - Hue via DSW; Black Pumps - Fioni via Payless
Since I have a hard time sitting on new clothes, I based my outfit on yet another piece recently purchased from JCPenney. The top already adds so much color to the outfit, so I layered a black cami under to keep the colorful top the main focus. Then I kept it simple with a pair of jeggings and some black pumps. For little extra bursts of color, without detracting from the top, I wore a pair of pink socks and a brightly colored glass bead necklace.
▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫

Black & Grey Striped Empire Waist Top - Rhapsody via Ross; Cropped Floral Lace Hoodie - Love By Design via JCPenney; Skinny Jeans - Old Navy; Red Peep Toes - Poetic License via Ideeli
Here I am yet again, wearing a new piece of clothing, a hoodie this time, from JCPenney. It was on the clearance rack, I think I paid $7. I really liked it, and though I have some difficulty styling cropped tops sometimes, I knew I'd be sad if I didn't buy it. I paired it with an empire waist top, and retaining the theme from Monday, mixing some stripes with florals. I really like how the two work together. The stripes add a rock and roll feel while the floral keeps it feminine. And then the shoes are of course, very feminine. What can I say? I will always be ultra-feminine at heart. :)
▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫
Peach Top with Embroidered Bib - Carolyn Taylor via Ross; Striped Skirt - Mossimo Supply Co via Target; Suede Booties - ShoeDazzle
I haven't worn this skirt in a while and on Thursday I decided to give it a spin. I took some liberties with the top since the coral kind of matches the orange in the skirt. If you look real closely, you can tell, but it works I think. Luckily I had a pair of tights that matched the purple/pink color in the skirt. I wasn't sure which shoes to wear since I didn't need anymore bright colors. Then I realized the taupe color of these booties matches up pretty closely to the skirt as well. Yay! To tie the black in from the booties, I wore the cameo necklace. I was really happy with the results of it all.
▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫▫
Green & Blue Striped Sundress - Old Navy; White Lace Tank - August Silk via Ross; Blue Oversized Cardi - Mossimo via Target; Blue & Green Lace Up Espadrilles - Old Navy
So the weird thing about this outfit is that I got the dress and shoes both at Old Navy. Since they are so similar in style, one might assume I bought them together. But really I bought the shoes about 4 or 5 years ago. Then I saw the dress there about 2 years ago and was like "OMG it was meant to be!" Lol, ok maybe I didn't really say that but I was definitely excited. You've heard me say it before, I love themes. Color themes are no exception. I don't always wear the shoes and dress together, but it's been a while since I've worn either so I simply couldn't resist. The rest of the outfit came together seamlessly, with the white tank, the blue cardi and the grey tights. I mixed in some silver, white, blue and green accessories and my look was complete.

Have a great rest of the weekend!! :)

Have A Twist on Cheetah Prints Day

Ok, slowly catching up here. Here we are back in time at last Friday.

Halter Top - Rampage & ECI via HauteLook; Black Pockets Cardi - Worthington via JCPenney; Skinny Jeans - Old Navy; Fuschia Ballet Flats - Lower East Side via Payless

Friday I knew I'd be running around a bit at work, so I opted for jeans. And flats seemed like a smart option as well. I recently purchased these fuschia flats and decided Friday was the perfect day to debut them. Using the fuschia color as a guide, I decided on this halter top with a jeweled neckline (I love tops that already come accessorized!). To cover my arms, I layered a black cardi over the tank. To keep it interesting and tie some elements from on top into the bottom part of my ensemble, I put some fishnet knee-highs on and then layered on top some printed footies with a pink cheetah pattern. I like how the footies kind of echo the print of the top. The top print already reminded me of a cheetah print, so the footies just further emphasized it.

What do you think about layering tights/footies/socks with each other? I'm really digging the look!
