Have A Stylish Day - Outfit Mashup - Bright Colors

Whew, what a week! I am so happy that it's Friday because it has been another whirlwind of a week. I've got outfits for Tuesday and Thursday (Wednesday I got a massage and had oil all over myself when it was done...so needless to say I was not in photo taking condition!)

I was in the mood for wearing a dress Tuesday and I hadn't worn this pink one in a while. It's a sleeveless dress so I needed to cover my shoulders with something as the cool weather has finally come back to us here. Instead of going for my standard cover up of a cardigan, I wanted to play with mixing patterns and colors by using a large scarf as a vest almost. I draped it over my shoulders and down my sides then I belted it with my black woven belt.

I really enjoy how this scarf looks over the dress. The pink of the dress is picked up in the scarf, plus the blue and teal colors mix nicely with the pink. Another thing I like is that since the scarf was large enough, it gave me like these pseudo kimono sleeves. I'm definitely digging the look, how about you?

 I've been starting to realize that I really don't wear too much color on Tuesdays and Thursdays due to drawing class. Even when I wear black, I hardly mix a lot of color in with it. I've been wanting to wear this giraffe print belt with this brown shirt dress for some time, but have been waiting for it to be cool enough. Finally Thursday I decided the time was right to debut the look. As I was trying to figure out what cami to layer under the dress & what stockings to wear, I looked at the necklace that I ended up wearing for inspiration. It has all these nice jewel tones in it plus some brown accents. Perfect! The purple cami and teal tights pulled the look together quite nicely.

With the rest of the accessories I decided to go all gold from my earrings to my cocktail ring to my gold flats. And I got a lot of compliments that day on my outfit. I was even surprised when this young teenage guy complimented me on my tights. I had no idea that young guys even paid attention to fashion like that! Lol. :)

Have A Your Momma Wears Combat Boots Day

So you know how last post I was saying that the previous extent of my boot wearing was short lived in high school? Well these are the Doc Martens that I needed so badly. Heh. And of course I only wore them a handful of times. And in the last 7 years I'm not sure I've even worn them once. But I decided it was finally time to bring them back out of retirement this season. Boots are everywhere and I've been getting boot envy! But I've had a perfectly good pair of my own just waiting to be styled for this season's looks.

I gotta say, this outfit just magically put itself together. I really didn't have to do too much except verify that it all looked good together like I thought it did in my head. I've been wanting to try red and olive together since I've been thinking of new ways to wear the color olive. And I've been waiting for a cool enough day to wear the long sleeved lace tee (and doesn't it figure that the forecast was calling for cooler temps than what we actually got...womp womp). And then the long cardigan acted as a nice top layer to cover my somewhat bare arms and shoulders. For the accessories I kept it way simple with just a black & red headband and a necklace with silvery gray baubles.

I definitely felt like a rocker girl for the day, a look that was my signature in high school. Nowadays its a pretty stark contrast to my more romantic and dressy tendencies. This is why I love clothing though, because it has such the ability to transform through something as easy as putting on a pair of boots and layering some tops. How easy would it be for you to transform your look for the day with items that are already in your wardrobe?

Have A Tights and Boots Day

Friday, sweet Friday. I do love my Fridays and I do love having fun with my outfits on Friday. It was the perfect Autumn day. The air was crisp and chilly and then sun was warmly glowing. And the trees! Oh, the trees. They have been changing into some of the most beautiful colors this past week.

  I think because of how perfectly Fall it was that day, I felt like wearing boots. Now as I've mentioned before, lately I have been trying out new things when it comes to my own style. Boots are something I include on that list of new things. I've never really been too much of a boot person. In high school, I went through a punk/goth phase where I just had to have a pair of Doc Martens lace up boots. But beyond a couple wears, here and there, I never really got into boots.

Until I saw this pair at Marshalls. I was there looking for the perfect pair of booties but then I stumbled upon these beauties. I've been toying with the idea of cowboy boots since this summer but was not prepared for a real, authentic, and costly pair. These were perfect because they were cheap (duh, Marshalls!) and comfy. No real breaking in needed. And I just love the slouchiness of them. Since purchasing them, I've been considering other boot options. Suffice it to say, I am now a boot convert! :)

I was trying to go for a rustic, romantic look here, with a hint of funky from the tights. The coral tee has a lot of detailing for being a basic monochrome top. The sleeves have pleating (which is cute but I don't like how they look flared up in the pics!), the front has a crocheted bib and the neckline is pretty interesting. Its the kind of top I imagine a modern-day cowgirl might wear. And there's just something about the skirt that reminds me of cowgirls too. From the skirt I pulled the lavender color and was so excited to realize that I had a new pair of tights that perfectly matched it. I was so pleased with how it all looked. I know the military style jean jacket doesn't really make sense on top of all of this, but it was cold out and I had to cover up somehow!

Have A Stylish Day - Accessory After the Fact - Elephant Pin

Do you remember the elephant pin that I wore in this post? Ok probably not, because you couldn't really see it! Well I've had a few posts where I wish you could see the accessories better. So I've decided to start a new series where I feature, in its full glory, an accessory that I've worn on this blog.

My dad bought this for me one year while we were Christmas shopping for my mother. We were at the Holiday Bazaar that is held annually at my old high school. Among the maze of booths, we stumbled upon a booth being run by a woman named Kathy. She told us that she was just about to open up her own storefront shop called Kiwi Boutique. We stayed a while looking at all the amazing things she had to offer, luxurious wraps, unique jewelry and other things. We ended up easily finding a few things for my mom and I found this elephant brooch which I wanted for myself. My dad appreciated me helping him shop, so as a token of his gratitude he bought it for me.

Over the years, I've ended up buying a lot of pieces of jewelry from Kathy at her boutique and from her booths at Eastern Market and the Holiday Bazaar. She always has really unique, funky stuff. Some of the jewelry is trendy while some is more classic. And she is always the most pleasant person to do business with. Have A Purple Day Times Two

Whew! What a week it has been. I'm so happy to be here in the weekend but we have unfinished business from the week still. I've got outfits from Wednesday and Thursday for ya, so let's get to it! :)

Purple Dress - Ross; Pink Sheer Blouse - Kohl's; Black Patent Peep Toes - Payless

Wednesday was Spirit Day and I had to wear purple. No problem! I've been wanted to wear this dress with some fun tights since Fall began. Plus I've had this pink sheer blouse that I've been wanting to layer over something. The dress is a gorgeous color and I adore the cut, but since it's pretty basic it's fun to add some visual interest and I think this blouse with its cute little lace detailing does just the trick.

Speaking of visual interest I love how the gray leopard print tights look with this outfit. At first I was thinking of going with a black lacy patterned pair of tights to go along with the romantic feel of it all. After all, the necklace I wore had a faux vintage cameo pendant. But I felt like adding a little rocker flair to the mix. The leopard print was an easy decision after that. Then came the black patent peep toes with gold studs. This is an outfit I could easily wear every day and keep loving it. :)

Black & White Pocketed Tunic - Haute Look; Black Leggings - Target; Red & Black Animal Print Scarf - Thrifted; Plum Lifted Flats

 On Thursday I was ready to wear a recent purchase that I had just received. I bought this tunic on HauteLook.com where it was listed as a dress...but it's a little too short for me to consider it a dress. I know sometimes I like to sport shorter hems but if it doesn't pass the finger tip test then it doesn't pass as a dress in my book. But that's ok because this is a great layering piece. It worked great with these black leggings and I already can't wait to wear it with jeans! Oh yeah, and guess what. It has pockets! Yeah, I love it.

The black and white pattern is somewhat painterly, somewhat wild animal print. I thought it would be fun to play with pattern mixing by using a printed scarf as a belt. This recently thrifted red and black scarf is already of mix of animal patterns and I'm digging the look of it with the tunic. To throw add a little more pattern into the outfit, I wore some patterned nylon socks. Usually I have this thing about red, black and white. So I was tempted to swing towards my would be go-to for this outfit, red flats. But instead I wanted to add another color by wearing these plum flats that have a slight little lift to them. My necklace brought the colors together. And while I attempted to capture a good shot of the little red bow in my hair, it didn't go so well and you can only barely see it. It was kinda far back on my head, but trust me. It looked really cute.

Have A Patterned Mixed Day

Hey there! It's Wednesday (yay!) but let's talk about Monday for a minute. Monday morning felt like it came a bit soon. To put me in a better mood I decided I was going to wear this sweater. I've had it for over a month now and haven't worn it yet. I know! It's not something I like to do, but the cropped length of it makes it a bit hard to style with my present wardrobe. I have a few ideas that I haven't played with yet but I was ready to wear it on Monday.

Since I don't have a lot of options with the cut of the cardigan, I knew I wanted to wear it with a high waisted skirt. I really don't have many and I am just so fond of this patterned skirt. I'm kind of upset that the photos turned out a little too overexposed so you can't see all the details that really bring the outfit together. The cardigan has one lone electric blue stripe, which is also a color found in the skirt. Then naturally the shoes and accessories came along too. Another thing that's upsetting is that this is my first time wearing these shoes on the blog and yet because of the grass you can't see them very well! Looks like I'll have to wear them again shortly to better showcase their fabulocity.



If you noticed the little hanger straps around my right shoulder, I didn't even notice until I hard started typing out this post. But I won't bother photoshopping it since obviously that it how I looked for part of the day. I was having to fuss with the straps every now and then throughout the day. I'll have to remember to cut them out since I don't need them. I get that some tops like halters really do need them if you're hanging them, but they're so annoying! What do you thing of those built-in hanger straps?

Have An Olive Green Day

Olive green is everywhere this fall and yet it's a color that I've never really messed with too much. I own an olive tank top and a print or two with olive in it. But it's just never been a color I thought would look good on me. As of late though, I have been trying to step out of my boundaries and push myself in new directions with my clothing. So when I saw this cardigan with lace shoulders I thought, "Why not?"

 I'm actually very pleased that I did take the plunge in buying it. I really like how the color looks on me and I got a lot of compliments while wearing it. I think it looks particularly nice against the dusty rose camisole. And surprise, surprise! For the third day in a row I wore jeans, a rarity for me these days, for sure.

My first instinct was to pair the military-esque green with bronze or brass, a combo that definitely calls to mind the military, at least to me. But I thought gray would be fun to do. I'd been wanting to try socks with heels since I've been seeing some very cute sock/heel pairings around the blogosphere lately. I was stoked I actually had a pair of olive green socks and I think they look pretty rad with the gray suede heels. To go along with the gray, and matching the olive & dusty rose perfectly, I have a silver trinket necklace that I bought at a strawberry festival out in California. The trinkets are all made from vintage paper and enamel and I just love it!
